A stay at home mom that used to get tattoos and tour the country playing bass in a rock band. Most of the music gear is sold but I still have the tattoos. These days you’ll find me spending time with my family, working as a freelance graphic designer, or writing.

I’m finally getting pictures hung on the walls..

I’m finally getting pictures hung on the walls... 8 months later. For some reason I have been much slower to decorate than usual. I have noticed I’m not feeling rushed to create any space (probably because we couldn’t have visitors anyway), and I’ve been taking my time to really think about what it is that I like and not just trends. Pair that with an extremely limited budget... and well, it’s the opposite of incentive to decorate. I finally told myself it’s time and whatever I do doesn’t mean it stays that way forever. I started with this entryway because it’s the first impression of our home. Now to keep everyone’s shoes in the closet instead of under this table. Maybe in stories I’ll walk through my inspiration, the ways I saved money, and how I go about styling a space. I’ll have to wait for the kids to get off the Switch though, otherwise there will be a bunch of yelling in the background. 😆 Also, comment when you find the price tag in the photo! 🤦‍♀️

When I was young, being a mom was never really something I aspired to be. But one day I found out I was pregnant with a little girl, and suddenly I was a mom. As my body literally made room, my life became entwined with this new life inside of me... and it was magical, uncontrollable, and unconditional. Just when I thought I didn’t have the capacity to love another person, we were blessed with a son, and I was proved wrong. And then again, when I found out I had another son on the other side of the world, my heart made room. I’ve never really felt like a nurturing person, and in the past I might have thought I wasn’t a good mother because I didn’t spend my time a certain way, or speak or serve a certain way. However, a look back at the impactful mother figures throughout my life (whether my biological mother, my many grandmothers, an aunt that took me in when I was in need, and even friends) makes me think...Maybe the one requirement for being a mother is making room, stretching to accommodate the ones God has given her. I thank God for trusting me with these three humans that call me mom. And I pray that, even if it was only for a moment, and even if you didn’t feel particularly nurtured or “mothered” by me, you felt my heart stretch to make room for you too.

I had no idea when I agreed to that spring break church trip our senior year of high school that I was signing up for the next 20! I distinctly remember one of the pastors telling you I was a ring shy of a life partner. (Who tells 17 & 18 year olds that?!) Our mutual friends at school were saying we’d be married. I had no idea. You had no idea. We just knew our souls matched each other. (That may be the cheesiest thing I’ve ever written.) 🖤 Consider this my sign up for the next 20 years. ✍️

Thank you to everyone who has checked on us. We were lucky to keep electricity the entire time, since we don’t have a fireplace or generator. We haven’t had water since Monday, but we had a surplus of snow that we could melt to flush toilets, and friends who have generously shared what drinking water they had. The sun is out today and roads are clearing a little so people are able to start getting out and distributing resources too.

We’re hanging in there and I’m so so thankful that I don’t feel alone. Our smaller community of friends and local church members have been in constant contact. Our neighborhood Facebook group is active with generosity abounding. It is definitely heartwarming to see. It also makes my heart ache because not everyone has that.

Please keep praying. The weather needs to warm up so everything can thaw out and go back to normal. There are people still without electricity and water. The stores are basically empty because the roads haven’t been drivable. As I type this, I got a weather alert for a hard-freeze warning... meaning the melting snow and ice will freeze again, possibly prolonging things.
