That Stitch Fix is so hot right now.  Stitch Fix.

If you haven’t heard of it, let me explain.  Basically Stitch Fix is a company that provides clients with a personal stylist/shopper experience.  You fill out a survey on their website so they can gather information about your style and size, then they choose 5 pieces and mail them to you.  You get 3 business days to try on the items and then mail back the pieces you don’t want.  You provide feedback for the things you didn’t keep so that the stylist knows what you didn’t like and why.  There is a $20 styling fee for the service, but shipping is free for both ways and the $20 is applied to any item that you decide to keep.  If you keep all of the pieces you get 25% off!

As soon as I heard about Stitch Fix, I knew I wanted to try it!  Shopping has been really hard for me recently.  I just can’t find things that I like or that fit right.  I think I’m stuck in a rut and thought this would be a neat way to try on things I wouldn’t normally buy!  I signed up and was on the wait list about a month.  As soon as I was able, I scheduled my first “Fix.”  It arrived Friday, a day before my scheduled date!  I couldn’t wait to tear into that pretty little box!

I immediately loved the print of the first top and was excited by the bright teal I saw peeking out underneath.

Each item of clothing comes with a neat card that shows recommended ways to wear it!  I love that!

Okay, so let’s get on with the review!

The first item was the Silver Horn Necklace by 41Hawthorn.

Impression: The necklace is nice enough, but ultimately sort of underwhelming.  I think I was hoping for more of a statement piece.
Price: $35
Verdict: Sending it back.  In my opinion, $35 is a bit pricey for such a plain necklace.  Plus, I have plenty of long silver necklaces.

The next item was a 3/4 Tab Sleeve Blouse by Everly.

Impression: I love this print, the 3/4 sleeves and the dark navy color!
Price: $58
Verdict: Probably going to keep it.  I don’t love the price but I think it is a good staple item for my wardrobe.  I have blouse with a similar pattern, but it is showing a lot of wear and tear and needs to be replaced anyway.

The next item was this High-Low Sheer Button-Up Tank by Halseyan.

Impression: I like the color but I’m not sure about the high-low feature.  I know this style is really popular right now… I just feel sort of juvenile wearing it.
Price: $48
Verdict: Sending it back.  The price is steep for a piece I don’t love.

The next item was a Sheer Back Top by Honey Punch.

Impression: I like the colors, the stripes and the surprise back.
Price: $48
Verdict: Sending it back.  I really wanted to keep this, but it just wasn’t right on me.  The front seemed too short and hit me right across my widest point.  Once again, I wasn’t sure about the high-low feature.  It makes me feel short so I paired it will heels… But let’s be honest, I am never going to wear those heels outside of a date night. Plus, the price was a little much for a shirt that I may or may not wear.

The last item was a Striped Skater Dress by Jack by BB Dakota.

Impression: Meh.
Price: $65
Verdict: Sending it back.  I sorta hated this dress.  I knew it wouldn’t look good on me as soon as I pulled it out of the box.  The material was a really thin knit and the horizontal stripes were really unflattering.  It looked alright with a cardigan, but it’s about to be summer!  Not to mention, $65 is ridiculous for a dress that I will probably never wear.

So my overall experience wasn’t great, but I still have faith.  I’m going to send everything but the bird print blouse back and give them another go soon.  I am going to revise my survey and give a lot of feedback on the pieces I send back so that my stylist knows exactly what I didn’t like.  I’ve heard the service gets better and better each time because they actually take your feedback into consideration.

The Ugly Truth

I was a little disappointed with my first “Fix.”  I wasn’t crazy about the styles, but like I just said, I am expecting that to get better.  I wasn’t crazy about the price point of the items, but I am a cheap shopper.  I hardly buy anything that isn’t on sale.  Or I just shop at cheap places like Target or Forever 21.  We all know I’m not 21 anymore!  I have recently come to the realization though… I am at a point now where I want to begin purchasing higher quality pieces for my wardrobe.  My closet if full of half-falling apart cheap stuff.  Now I’d rather spend a little more for good quality items that will last.  Don’t get me wrong, this will not be a weekly or even monthly thing!  This is a treat for me!

The REALLY Ugly Truth

Oh man it was hard to upload these pictures.  My husband says I’m crazy and that I have a skewed body image.  He says I’m thin and look lovely in everything.  I don’t believe him and think his standards for my body just aren’t as high as mine.  I know there are plenty of people reading this and agreeing with my husband, but I also know there are people reading this that think it wouldn’t hurt for me to drop some weight.  Seriously… if I get down to it, most of the reason I struggled with this “Fix” is because I am not happy with how the clothes look on ME.  I am not fishing for compliments here.  I’m just putting it out there.  I know there are people who would love to be in my shoes.  I know I am loved and my worth and value doesn’t come from how I look.  I KNOW that.  I’m just not happy with the shape that I am in right now.  I’m am making slow strides toward healthier choices when it comes to food and exercise and discipline.

Hopefully the next “Fix” I order will be more flattering or I will feel more confident… or I will have actually lost this baby weight that has hung on now for two years! 😉

  1. You should listen to your husband. I love that dress on you. However, I had a skater-style dress in my first fix and it was a little snug around the middle for me, so I can also see why you would send it back.

The two blouses (not the bird one) just look really odd. I don’t think I’d like them on anyone. But clearly somebody does.
